Email Archiving Service Overview
Email archiving service automatically archives every email sent and received by every mailbox in your domain to multiple off-site locations.
Each email is cataloged,
and searchable through a web based interface that is easy to use and fully HIPAA, GLBA, and SOX compliant.
What is needed to use the Email Archiving Service?
There are two critical components to using the Email Archiving Service:
- The email for your entire domain must be hosted by The Message Center.
- You must use Full Access accounts for each mailbox.
The reason for this is, in order to archive the email correctly, it must pass through our Exchange servers - both sending and receiving.
What is needed to get Email Archiving Service started?
You can activate the service when signing up your new account or you can activate it at any time in your web based Control Panel.
What email clients will work with the Email Archiving Service?
Outlook will look exactly the way it does without Exchange (it is similar to switching from a DSL service to a cable modem).
Can I use more than one email client with the Email Archiving Service?
Absolutely! You are able to have as many email clients (such as Microsoft Outlook) as you would like - but they must be using a Full Access account and communicating in full MAPI.
How do I view the archived email ?
There is a easy to use web based interface that allows you to view, search, and categorize the archived email.
Does the Email Archiving Service archive email prior to turning it on?
No. Email will only be archived after activating the archiving service.
Why will POP accounts not work with the Email Archiving Service?
Since email must me traveling through the Exchange servers to archive, POP email sends through the SMTP servers but never actually touches the mailbox. Therefore POP compromises the compliancy that archiving provides.
Can I have the email deleted after a certain period of time?
Absolutely! In order to meet certain compliancy, you will specify the length of time that email will be stored. After that period, the email will automatically be deleted.
Can I archive the email for only a few mailboxes in my domain?
Not yet. We are working on the ability to do individual mailboxes...but it is not available at this time.
